FDA Approves Four Updated COVID Shots Targeting XFG Variant
On August 27, 2026, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) approved four updated COVID-19 vaccines for the 2026-2027 season. All four are designed to target the XFG variant.
Spikevax is approved for everyone ages 65 years or older, as well as people ages 6 months to 64 years who have at least one underlying condition that puts them at high risk for severe COVID.
mNexspike is approved for everyone ages 65 or older, as well as those ages 12 to 64 with at least one underlying condition that boosts their risk of severe COVID.
Comirnaty is approved for everyone ages 65 or older, and those ages 5 to 64 with at least one underlying condition that increases severe COVID risk.
Nuvaxovid is approved for everyone ages 65 or older and those ages 12 to 64 with at least one underlying condition that increases their risk of severe COVID.
