The Dose is PAMED’s member-exclusive weekly e-newsletter, delivered to your inbox every Thursday. It’s a simple way to get a healthy dose of the hot topics in Pennsylvania medicine.

Why am I not getting my email?
There may be several reasons why you are not getting The Dose.
- The email we have on file for you is wrong or outdated.
- You have a general email like info@nameofpractice.com. Unfortunately, we are unable to send emails to general email addresses. We require personal emails like jsmith@practicename.com to send our email communications.
- You marked any one of our PAMED emails as "spam" and are now not receiving any PAMED email communications.
- You unsubscribed from the Dose or previously from our Daily Dose and are now not receiving the newsletter.
- Check your junk/spam folder to see if your Dose emails are in your spam folder. If you are using Outlook or Gmail, make sure the Dose is not going into your "Other" inbox.
- Your company may be blocking our email and not letting it get to your inbox. You can reach out to your IT team and ask to have anything from @pamedsoc.org whitelisted.

Department of Aging Proposes Amendments to the Caregiver Support Program Regulations (request for public comment)

Supreme Court Rules Unfavorably on Risk of Harm in PAMED/AMA Amicus Case

On October 29, 2026, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled unfavorably in a case in which PAMED and the AMA had partnered on an amici curiae brief. The case, Smith v. Kannarkatt, et al., was a medical malpractice action where the appeal concerned the legal proof necessary to get an increased risk of harm case to the jury.

State Board of Nursing Issues CRNA Certification Regulations

In June 2021, Act 60 was enacted to amend the Professional Nursing Law by adding language to recognize and license certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNA) in Pennsylvania. The Board of Nursing (board) recently issued out final regulations required to update the board's existing regulations to implement Act 60 of 2021.

Mcare Publishes the 2027 Assessment Rate of 30%

The Medical Care Availability and Reduction of Error (Mcare) Act requires Mcare to calculate the assessment rate in the fall of each year and inform the health care provider community and insurers of the assessment rate percentage for the following year by November 1st.
