The Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) is proud to announce Bindukumar Kansupada, MD, a retired nuclear cardiologist from Bucks County, as the recipient of its 2026 International Voluntary Service Award for his decades of global service and steadfast commitment to uplifting underserved communities.

“I am deeply humbled and honored to be nominated for the PAMED International Voluntary Service Award. This recognition is incredibly meaningful, almost like reaching the summit of Mt. Everest,” said Bindukumar Kansupada, MD. “It reflects not only my personal journey, but also the unwavering support and inspiration of my wife and children, who have encouraged me to dedicate my life to the wellbeing of others.”

Born and raised in India, his commitment to medicine and serving others started at a young age when experiencing loss and survival in his own family. Through great determination, he was admitted into India’s top medical school in 1973, the University of Bombay, Topiwala National Medical College in Mumbai before moving to the United States for his cardiology fellowship at the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hospital in 1984 (now Drexel University College of Medicine).  He served in Bucks County for 47 years before retiring.

Beyond his clinical work, he is dedicated to his service with the WHEELS Global Foundation, where he serves as the Vice Chair of the Health Council. In this role, he has helped advance scalable, community-based health care initiatives focused on preventative care, health education and capacity-building in areas where there are limited resources. By advancing programs that empower local health workers and strengthen health networks, his efforts have enabled access to care for entire communities—not just individual patients. Dr. Kansupada has also played a transformative volunteer leadership role at Eras Lucknow Medical College and Hospital in India, where he has spearheaded high-impact academic, research and service collaborations, including a partnership with the Mayo Clinic to advance AI-supported 3D medical learning and translation research.

Kansupada said, “This nomination further strengthens my commitment to service. It motivates me to continue sharing my knowledge and skills to improve health and social well-being in underserved communities, both in India and around the world. I strongly believe in the power of collaboration, bringing physicians together across geographies, cultures, and socioeconomic boundaries to create lasting impact.”

PAMED Immediate Past President and nomination committee member, Lynn Lucas‑Fehm, MD, JD said, “Dr. Kansupada’s commitment to serving communities across the globe embodies the spirit of a physician devoted to humanity. His efforts to bridge gaps in care and uplift vulnerable populations worldwide are extraordinary, and we are honored to recognize his impact.”

PAMED’s International Voluntary Service Award celebrates physicians who go beyond the exam room to make a lasting impact.
