The Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) is proud to announce Benjamin Lloyd, MD as the recipient of its 2026 Distinguished Service Award, the highest honor bestowed upon PAMED members. This recognition celebrates his career long dedication to the leadership and service of guiding future generations of medical professionals.
Dr. Lloyd is board-certified in internal medicine with Tower Health in Berks County and has been practicing at Reading Hospital since completing his residency in 1992. He had joined the internal medicine faculty in 1994 and served as Transitional Year Program Director for 12 years.
An academic hospitalist, he currently serves as the program director for the Reading Hospital/Tower Health Internal Medicine Residency and clinical associate professor in the Department of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine.
“I have been privileged by the opportunities that my career in academic medicine has afforded me,” Dr. Lloyd said. “I have had many mentors who role modeled excellent, compassionate patient care, the art of teaching medical students and residents and the joy of medicine. I am thankful for the opportunity to lead and be part of a group of educators that approach our teaching mission with enthusiasm, innovation and the goal of balancing patient-centered and learner-centered care. It has been an interesting, challenging and fulfilling journey.”
His academic teachings include code blue simulation for internal medicine residents, and volunteering at the Reading Hospital’s free street medicine clinic which reaches Reading’s most vulnerable population. Dr. Lloyd has also chaired the Emergency Response Committee at Reading Hospital and service as Executive Council of the Berks County Medical Society.
“Dr. Lloyd’s dedication to training future physicians and serving his community has made a lasting impact on health care in Pennsylvania,” said PAMED Immediate Past President and nomination committee member, Lynn Lucas -Fehm, MD, JD. “His leadership, compassion, and commitment to medical education make him a truly deserving recipient of this honor.”
PAMED’s Distinguished Service Award has honored exceptional physicians since 1956, when Jonas E. Salk, MD was recognized for his breakthrough development of the polio vaccine.
