Recently, the Joint Underwriting Association (JUA), Pennsylvania’s medical liability insurer of last resort, generously shared with PAMED requested premium increased from select insurance providers. It is important to remember that these are requested increases, not approved increases. The Pennsylvania Insurance Department has yet to respond to any of these requested increases.

Requested increases:

JUA = 3%

*ProAssurance = 20.7%. effective 7/1/2025 (indication was 47.4%)

  • 10.0% for podiatrists, effective 8/1/2025

    *NORCAL = 7.8%, effective 5/1/2025 (indication was 10.5%)

    ProSelect = 7.0%, effective 11/1/2025 (indication was 10.8%)

    MedPro = 3.7% for P&S, effective 1/1/2026 (indication was 7.4%)

  • 9.8% for chiropractors, optometrists, and podiatrists
  • 10.0% for CRNA

    Positive Physicians = 3.4%, effective 4/1/2025

    American Casualty (CNA) = 3.8% for nurse practitioners, effective 6/15/2025

  • 9.9% for dentists

* To differentiate between NorCal and ProAssurance, NorCal is the Pennsylvania division of ProAssurance, so the higher ProAssurance numbers versus NorCal will only apply to Pennsylvania physicians who live across the border in states and get their insurance through ProAssurance in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Ohio or West Virginia. For example, if they get their insurance through Maryland because they live in Maryland but practice across the border in Gettysburg.
