PAMED has been informed by the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) that a provider has voluntarily surrendered their DEA License, which means the provider is currently unable to prescribe controlled substances. Most patients impacted by this event are receiving opioids and benzodiazepines and may be seeking resources to re-establish care, specifically for the treatment of pain.
Patients impacted by the provider arrest will likely come from Chester County.
Patients treated long-term with opioids and/or benzodiazepines may be physically dependent on their medicine which means they are at risk of severe medication withdrawal, including pain and psychological distress, if care is not quickly re-established. Patients who are prescribed buprenorphine for opioid use disorder may need to re-establish care with a new treatment provider as soon as possible.
If you have a practice in the above county, you may receive an increase in calls or visits from patients because of this incident.
