Department of Health: Addition of Deuchenne Muscular Dystrophy to the Supplemental Conditions Mandated for Screening in this Commonwealth; Public Comment

The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services added Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) to the Recommended Uniform Screening Panel on December 16, 2025. The Department of Health (Department), Division of Newborn Screening and Genetics, with the support of the Newborn Screening and Follow-up Technical Advisory Board, is proposing that DMD be added to the list of supplemental conditions mandated for screening and follow-up by submitters of this Commonwealth and follow-up by the Pennsylvania Newborn Screening Program. The estimated effective date for this addition is January 1, 2027. Written comments regarding the Department's proposal to add DMD to the list of conditions may be sent by email to RA-TCNBSADMIN_Fax@pa.gov or by mail to the Department of Health, Division of Newborn Screening and Genetics, 625 Forster Street, 7th Floor East, Harrisburg, PA 17120.
