September Speakers Podium

Sep 08, 2025

Well ladies and gentlemen, Labor Day has come and passed, summer is unofficially over, and the fall weather has arrived. All this only means one thing to your Speakers: House of Delegates season has officially begun. Here are a few notes, tips, and reminders to ensure that this year’s HOD is even better than the last!

Resolutions

We have received a record number of resolutions for consideration at this year’s HOD. These have all been posted to the HOD Website. Now is the time to review and debate!

We encourage you and your delegations to read and discuss the resolutions and to make your voice heard by submitting online written testimony on the online forums. Remember that all written testimony will be considered by the reference committees when they meet after oral testimony on September 13th. The more testimony we have, the better the reference committee reports will be. **Remember that all PAMED members can provide written or oral testimony in reference committee ** (NOT just Delegates and Alternates), so encourage your friends to give testimony as well!

Opening Virtual Business Session – Saturday, September 13, 2025 @ 8:30 AM

Speaking of Saturday September 13th

The opening business session of the 2025 House of Delegates will take place virtually at 8:30 AM. All delegates should attend this session as a few items of business will take place. Drawing on your feedback from last year, the Speakers have reduced this session down to essential business: accepting the items of business, voting on the standing rules, and one final call for nominations for leadership positions. We expect this session to take no longer than one hour.

Oral Reference Committee Testimony

Immediately following the closing of the virtual business sessions our reference committees will convene, virtually, for oral testimony. The 3 committees will run concurrently with an item tracker available on the website for folks that need to jump back and forth between committees. The committees are:

  • Reference Committee A (Bylaws and Governance)
  • Reference Committee B and E (Education, Science, Public Health & Membership, Leadership, Subsidiaries)
  • Reference Committee C and D (Managed Care & Other Third-Party Reimbursement & Medicare Fund, Tort Reform & Legislative Regulations)

Again, let us stress: Now is the time for debate on resolutions! Take advantage of the online forums for written testimony and please participate in oral testimony so the committees can craft the best reports possible.

All reference committee reports will be posted to the HOD website by October 1st to give delegations time to review prior to our October business session.

ParliPro Practice

Whether this is your first HOD or you’ve been coming since medical school, please attend one of our 2 virtual parliamentary procedures practice sessions. Your Speakers will go over tips and tricks for making the most of ParliPro and give you the opportunity to put us to the test with some fun practice resolutions.  Sessions will be held on September 30th and October 7th. Please visit the website to register and get the zoom link.

October Hybrid Meeting – Saturday, October 18, 2025 @ 9:00 AM

We look forward to seeing many of you in person in Hershey on October 18th but remember for those that can’t make the trip in person our meeting is fully hybrid. You should have indicated your attendance preference when registering for the meeting. Please contact HOD@pamedsoc.org ASAP if your plans have changed.

But enough with the boring stuff… lets have some fun! Please join us on Friday October 17th for a refreshed full day of programming including interactive learning sessions (some with CME credit), an open lunch with PAMED leadership, poster presentations, networking opportunities, exhibitors, and our evening social where you can interact with members of the Board of Trustees and candidates for leadership positions. All events are open and free to all attendees.

Plan to stick around after the business meeting on Saturday for an evening reception where we can all kick off our shoes and have fun after a hard day’s work. And for those able to spend the night, there will be breakfast and some CME on Sunday morning as well before you depart.

Final Tips

  1. Provide written testimony now and plan to attend the virtual reference committee meetings on September 13th
  2. Meet with your delegations and members regularly throughout the HOD season
  3. Attend one of our ParliPRo practice sessions on September 30th or October 7th
  4. Visit the HOD website frequently for updates, reports, times, and other helpful information

As always, your Speakers are here to ensure a smooth, effective, productive, and most importantly fun HOD for our society. Please let us know what we can do to help, and we look forward to interacting with you all over the next few months.
