At its meeting on Nov. 16, 2021, Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Advisory Board voted to recommend that Chronic Hepatitis be added to the list of serious medical conditions for purposes of medical marijuana certification.

At a previous meeting, the Advisory Board voted down recommendations to add Hepatitis and Hepatitis C to the list of serious medical conditions over concerns that permitting acute cases of these illnesses to qualify for medical marijuana certification was overly broad.

Under recent changes to Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Law, see Act 44 of 2021, the Advisory Board may recommend additional serious medical conditions of which one must have to qualify for medical marijuana certification. The Secretary of Health must subsequently approve such recommendations. The recommendations will then take effect after the Secretary’s approval and upon publication in the Pennsylvania Bulletin.
