York County Psychiatrist Receives PAMED Everyday Hero Award for Exemplary Patient Care and Collaboration with Colleagues

Last Updated: Jun 17, 2021

Gregory Bredow, MD, a psychiatrist at WellSpan Philhaven - New Freedom, has been named PAMED’s Everyday Hero for June 2021. He received the award at a virtual ceremony on June 17.

When asked why he pursued a career in medicine, Dr. Bredow said, “I always had an interest in people, science, the environment, and the wider world. Working in psychiatry allows me to incorporate all these elements and to truly help people understand their symptoms and find collective solutions together.”

Debra Stambaugh, a therapist at another practice who collaborates and coordinates care for a number of patients with Dr. Bredow, nominated him for the award. Mrs. Stambaugh had so many nice things to say about Dr. Bredow, we couldn’t pick just one to share! Here are some of our favorites:

  • “Of all the providers I have worked with, he exceeds all expectations of care coordination. Dr. Bredow doesn’t just do his job, it is obvious he enjoys his work and genuinely wants to help others. He goes above and beyond to coordinate care for his patients. Two words to describe him - the best.”

  • “Dr. Bredow is forthright in informing his clients of necessary information and he tells them what they need to know. Dr. Bredow communicates this in a way that is clear yet gentle. He does this with much forethought as to how they will receive the information and how he can help them process this.”

  • “Dr. Bredow is very humble. When I’ve recognized the high regard I hold for him,
Dr. Bredow responds that he is just doing his job. But I know, and his clients know, he far exceeds the standards of ‘just doing his job.’”

  • “Dr. Bredow is genuinely a hero every day when he brings joy to all those who cross his path and through providing relief from their emotional or physical pain.”

When Dr. Bredow isn’t seeing patients, he loves to spend time outdoors – traveling, exploring, and taking long hikes. He also loves to read, and enjoys learning about history, particularly American and European history.

PAMED’s Everyday Hero Award program, launched in 2018, honors member physicians who go above and beyond in their profession and in providing patient care. It’s designed to showcase exemplary physicians who probably don’t view themselves as heroes, but to patients and colleagues they are.

Patients and medical colleagues can nominate PAMED member physicians for this award at www.pamedsoc.org/EverydayHero.
