PAMED Statement on Changes to CDC Childhood Vaccine Schedule

Last Updated: Jan 6, 2026

The Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) strongly supports vaccination and other evidence‑based practices and has significant concerns about recent changes to the childhood immunization schedule that may affect the health and safety of millions of children.

The longstanding, evidence‑based approach used to review and provide guidelines for childhood immunizations remains the most reliable way to keep children healthy and prevent serious infections, infections that often lead to serious complications and hospital stays. For decades, immunologists, pediatricians, and other leading health experts have carefully evaluated new data as part of this process, helping to ensure that newborns, infants, and children are protected from infectious diseases they may encounter as they grow.

The CDC’s recent decision is based on a brief review of practices in other countries. It was not reviewed by national subject matter experts, it lacks public input, and it disrupts the deliberate and time‑tested scientific framework for effective population health.

Many physicians across the Commonwealth understand the critical role immunization plays in reducing the spread of illness and safeguarding vulnerable populations.

PAMED encourages all Pennsylvanians to speak with their physicians to make informed decisions for themselves and their families based on trusted medical expertise. Visit the American Academy of Pediatrics for an up-to-date recommended vaccine schedule.

As always, PAMED will continue to advocate for evidence‑based care and work to protect Pennsylvanians from vaccine‑preventable diseases.
