PAMED Calls for Long-Term Solutions to Protect Medicare and Vulnerable Populations

May 29, 2025, 09:23 AM

The Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) commends the U.S. House of Representatives for passing a reconciliation bill that includes a Medicare payment update for 2026, partially addressing inflation. While this marks a crucial step in safeguarding seniors' access to care, PAMED urges Congress to ensure that Medicare payments consistently keep pace with inflation over the long term.

PAMED President Lynn Lucas-Fehm, MD, JD, emphasized, "Drastic policy changes could hinder access to essential programs. We remain concerned that certain provisions may create unnecessary hurdles for eligible individuals seeking to maintain coverage. Federal initiatives should focus on facilitating enrollment and ensuring accessibility for those eligible, not imposing additional barriers."

As the bill moves forward, PAMED calls on the Senate to take necessary steps to enhance efficiency without inadvertently disrupting coverage for vulnerable populations. Please take a moment to contact your Senators today and urge them to improve the reconciliation bill.
