In Pennsylvania, Legionella infections increase each year during spring, summer, and fall months (May-November). The preferred diagnostic tests for a Legionella infection are culture of lower respiratory secretions (e.g., sputum, bronchoalveolar lavage) on selective media AND the Legionella urinary antigen test. Submit Legionella isolates to the PA DOH Bureau of Laboratories for characterization. Read more.
