RESOLVED, that the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) support and advocate for an end to pediatric medical transition for individuals under 18 years of age in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, including the use of puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and “gender-affirming” surgeries used for the purpose of treating gender dysphoria and thereby attempting to affirm a minor’s perception of his or her gender when that perception is inconsistent with the minor’s biological sex; and be it further
RESOLVED, that PAMED petition the American Medical Association (AMA) to amend Policy 185.927 Evidence-Based Gender-Affirming Care (Exhibit A) such that those less than 18 years of age are removed from its consideration, ensuring that AMA policy guidelines align with the current state of evidence in pediatric medical transition; and be it further
RESOLVED, that PAMED petition the AMA to coordinate efforts among America’s medical societies, working in conjunction with the Department of Health and Human Services, to increase transparency, promote open debate, and ensure rigorous scientific scrutiny in the reevaluation of clinical practice guidelines related to pediatric gender medicine considering the very low evidence of benefit for these interventions and considerable risk of harms; and be it further
RESOLVED, that the PA Delegation to the AMA expeditiously bring this resolution, less the first resolved clause, to the next AMA House of Delegates meeting.
