Mar 31, 2026

SUGGESTED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE 2026 HOUSE OF DELEGATES

RECOMMENDATION:

The Board of Trustees recommends/decided that Resolution 25-426: Promoting Health, Reducing Costs Through Expanding County Departments of Health, be amended as follows:

RESOLVED, that the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED), in its role as an advocate for promoting the health and well-being of patients and supporting the public health needs of our communities, lobby our state legislators and administrative officials to enact legislation which will substantially advocate the legislature for increased state funding for County and Municipal Health Departments; and be it further and promote the creation of County Departments of Health such that any Pennsylvania county governmental or health official who desires to create a County Department of Health in their jurisdiction will have the financial resources to further this objective in support of the health of their community.

RESOLVED, that PAMED encourages the Pennsylvania Department of Health to reach out to counties without a County/Municipal Health Department to remind them the option exists and provide them with an overview of the process.
