Joint Providers

PAMED can offer joint providership for CME activities to organizations providing continuing medical education to Pennsylvania’s physicians. Requests for joint provider relationships are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. If your organization is interested in exploring joint providership through PAMED, please first review the materials in the “Getting Started” section to learn more about PAMED’s policies and practices for activity accreditation.

Getting Started

  • The following types of organizations/entities are welcome to inquiry about CME credit through PAMED:

    • National, state, regional or county medical societies that serve the interests of physicians.
    • Government agencies.
    • Healthcare agencies.
    • Non-profit organizations planning education addressing team-based care and the needs of physicians as members of the healthcare team.
    • Hospitals or medical practices based in Pennsylvania wishing to provide education to their employees/staff with privileges.
    • Organizations which have strategic relationships with PAMED, or educational goals that align with PAMED.
    • Education companies not affiliated with, or owned by, ACCME-defined ineligible companies.
    • The standard fees associated with joint providership of an educational activity are $2,500 for the administrative cost plus a fee of $50 per credit awarded. One credit is equal to 60 minutes. For example, if your activity offers 8 hours of education, then your costs would consist of a $2,500 administrative fee plus a $400 per credit fee (8 hours x $50), for a total fee of $2,900.
    • Credit can be awarded in increments of 15 minutes or .25 credits (ie .50, 1.25, 3.75), however, the minimum per credit fee assessed for any activity will be $50, regardless of the time duration of the activity. Per credit fees after the first credit are assigned on a pro-rated based. For example, an activity offering .75 credits will be assessed the minimum per credit fee of $50 whereas an activity offering 1.50 credits will be assessed a per credit fee of $75.
    • NOTE: Please contact us for the cost of enduring material fees.
    • If your organization desires to seek educational grants from companies defined by the ACCME as an illegible company (“industry support”), please contact us  as additional fees may apply and Commercial Support Letters of Agreement must be fully executed prior to the activity occurring.
    • Clinical knowledge to identify physician practice gaps and educational need (in terms of knowledge, competence, or performance), identify desired leaner outcomes, conduct content reviews if needed, and/or to monitor content to mitigate conflicts of interest. These responsibilities can be handled by one individual or via a planning committee. This role is critical especially at the beginning of the activity planning and application submission process. It is important that the individual(s) be able to respond to emails or phone calls from PAMED during the activity review and approval process.
    • Administrative support is also needed throughout the process. This individual is the main contact person for PAMED and serves as the “go-to” person throughout the process. Tasks include:
    • Communicating with planners and faculty regarding CME requirements such as completing disclosure forms, faculty presentation guidelines, submitting presentation materials, etc.
    • Completing the CME application through PAMED’s online submission platform.
    • Receiving and paying the invoice.
    • Sending marketing materials to PAMED for review.
    • Sending exhibit forms/letters, if applicable, to PAMED for review.
    • Sending all educational materials/handouts for review (e.g., CME disclosure and accreditation statements, program booklet, etc.)
    • Reporting activity participants to PAMED within 3 business days after activity completion.
    • Conveying CME activity evaluation link to eligible participants.
    • Responding promptly (usually within one week of your request submission) to let you know if we can consider CME credit for your event.
    • Working with you throughout the process to communicate requirements, provide training and resources, provide examples/templates, answer questions, etc.
    • Providing necessary oversight throughout the process to ensure that the CME activity meets AMA expectations and the ACCME provider requirements, including compliance with the ACCME Standards for Integrity and Independence.
    • Listing your accredited activity on the PAMED CME Event Calendar (if desired by joint provider).
    • Providing CME certificates to physicians and attendance certificates to non-physicians if applicable.
    • Retaining activity information for required six years and providing duplicate certificates when needed.
    • New Joint Provider – send an inquiry email to CMEadmin@pamedsoc.org describing your organization and include (1) a brief description of the activity for which you are seeking credit; (2) the date(s) of the proposed activity; (3) whether your organization/this activity has received credit in the past through another CME provider; and if so, (4) the name of the former CME provider.
    • Returning Joint Provider – Submit an intent to apply for Category 1 credit to the PAMED CME office as soon as possible. Go to intent form.
    • A representative of PAMED’s CME team will contact you to discuss your proposed application.
