2018 Medicare Premiums and Deductibles Announced by CMS

The 2018 Medicare Parts A (inpatient hospitals) and B (physician and outpatient hospital services) premiums and deductibles were announced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on Nov. 17, 2017. The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B enrollees will be $134 for 2018, an amount that is unchanged from 2017.

The following deductibles and coinsurances will be in effect for 2018:

PART A

Deductible

  • $1,340

Coinsurance

  • $335 a day for days 61-90
  • $670 a day for days 91-150, lifetime reserve days
  • $167.50 a day for Skilled Nursing Facility coinsurance

PART B

Deductible

  • $183

Coinsurance

  • 20 percent of the Medicare allowed amount/fee schedule

Premiums for Part C (Medicare Advantage) and Part D (Medicare Prescription Drug plans) already finalized are unaffected by this announcement.
