Pa. Department of Health Issues Testing Recommendations for Pregnant Females

On Oct. 4, 2017, the Pennsylvania Department of Health (DOH) issued testing recommendations for hepatitis B, hepatitis C, HIV, and STDs in pregnant females. The health advisory was shared with Pennsylvania physicians and others subscribed to receive PA Health Alert Network (PA-HAN) alerts.

The advisory says that testing recommendations are in alignment with the most recent copy of the CDC STD Treatment Guidelines and the current American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists Guidelines for Perinatal Care. DOH encourages OB/Gyn providers to review the testing recommendations to ensure that their practices are in adherence.

The advisory also includes:

  • General recommendations
  • Special note for high risk females
  • Special note on syphilis treatment
