CMS Announces 2020 Medicare Premiums and Deductibles

MedicareThe 2020 Medicare Parts A (inpatient hospitals) and B (physician and outpatient hospital services) premiums and deductibles were announced by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) on Nov. 8, 2019.

The standard monthly premium for Medicare Part B enrollees will be $144.60 for 2020, an increase of $9.10 from $135.50 in 2019.

The following deductibles and coinsurances will be in effect for 2020:

PART A

Deductible

$1,408

Coinsurance

  • $352 a day for days 61-90
  • $704 a day for lifetime reserve days
  • $176 a day for Skilled Nursing Facility coinsurance

PART B

Deductible

$198

After the deductible is met, beneficiaries typically pay 20 percent of the Medicare-approved amount for most doctor services (including most doctor services while the beneficiary is a hospital inpatient), outpatient therapy, and durable medical equipment.
