Take Our Brief Survey If You Took the ONC's "No Fax Friday" Challenge

Last Updated: Sep 27, 2018

THE BACKGROUND

In August, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma announced the goal of eliminating the fax machine in provider offices by 2020. Payers are already embracing this goal and some have even announced plans to phase out fax numbers in 2019.

THE CHALLENGE

To highlight Administrator Verma’s challenge, Office of National Coordinator’s (ONC) Steve Posnack encouraged health care organizations to participate in “No Fax Friday” on Oct. 12, 2018.

Policymakers in Washington have not sufficiently resolved interoperability issues and don't have adequate faxing alternatives in place. They are putting the cart before the horse.

That's why we asked our members to take the ONC's "No Fax Friday" Challenge. We continue to let policymakers know that your fax machine is a critical part of rendering timely patient care. When we're back in Washington in December, we will continue to ensure the physician voice is heard.
