How ABMS Plans to Implement Vision Commission Recommendations for MOC Reform

stethoscope-bookOn May 20, 2019, the American Board of Specialties shared an update on its efforts to implement its Vision Commission recommendations for maintenance of certification (MOC) reform.

ABMS has taken the following steps:

  • Selected the members of its Achieving the Vision Oversight Committee. This committee will lead the implementation of the Vision Commission’s recommendations. You can read the recommendations here.
  • Identified Five Task Forces to Help Implement MOC Recommendations. The Oversight Committee will seek guidance from the ABMS Stakeholder Council to help direct of the work of its five task forces: Standards Task Force, Advancing Practice Task Force, Information and Data Sharing Task Force, Professionalism Task Force, and Remediation Task Force. PAMED Past President Charles Cutler, MD, MACP is a member of the ABMS Stakeholder Council.

    The Standards Task Force will be composed of members of the ABMS Board of Directors and the ABMS Committee on Continuing Certification. Members of the other task forces will include external stakeholders and will be announced in late June 2019.
  • Published an overview of the Vision Initiative process, recommendations, and implementation program in the Journal of the American Medical Association. You can find this article online here.

    I smell a white wash. Time will tell. And where is the investigation on what the ABMS did with the millions of dollars they received from picking our pockets? And was the money appropriately spent?
