Risks Associated with Chronic Pain Management (CME)

Objectives

At the conclusion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Use a variety of tools to help with management of pain patients,including evidence-based guidelines, pain assessment inventories, depression and suicide assessment tools, therapeutic agreements, and timely referrals and consultations.
  • Document appropriately about pain management including making notes on assessments, treatment rationales, patient responses to treatments, and medications prescribed and dispensed.
  • Take steps that will diminish the likelihood that patients will abuse or divert pain medications.
