Pennsylvania’s Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC) was directed to study the impact of a proposed Pa. Supreme Court venue rule change – which the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) and its coalition of stakeholders vehemently opposes – that would allow medical liability lawsuits to take place outside of the county where the alleged malpractice occurred.
The LBFC’s report was released on Feb. 3, 2020. After a careful review of the report, PAMED has created a detailed analysis of the venue report’s findings.

PAMED believes that those groups seeking a return to venue shopping should have the burden of showing that such a rule change is needed. The LBFC report does little to support their efforts to change the venue rule.
