Bill Seeks to Eliminate Religious and Philosophical Exemptions for School Immunizations

Vaccine-Child-DoctorA Pennsylvania bill introduced on May 15, 2019 aims to remove the religious and philosophical exceptions for school immunizations allowed by state law. The bill, Senate Bill (SB) 653, was introduced by Sen. Daylin Leach and has been referred to the Senate Education Committee.

SB 653 specifically addresses vaccines required by law for children to attend school in Pennsylvania. You can find Pennsylvania’s current school immunization requirements here.

The bill does not address vaccines that are not required for school attendance – for example, vaccines for flu and HPV.
