Wayne County Gastroenterologist Inaugurated as Pennsylvania Medical Society’s 172nd President

Last Updated: Jan 18, 2022

David Talenti, M.D., a gastroenterologist who practices in Wayne County, was inaugurated as the 172nd president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, Jan. 8, 2022.

Dr. Talenti has a diverse professional background with experience in both private practice and large health systems. He is currently a partner at Northeastern Gastroenterology Associates in Honesdale, Pennsylvania.

As PAMED president, Dr. Talenti’s initiative will focus on servant leadership, a teaching concept for leaders to be servants first, not bosses.

“I want to increase the quality of life not only for our patients, but our physicians as well,” Dr. Talenti said. “I’m in my 34th year of practice, I’ve noted a disturbing trend. Doctors have become more burdened with paperwork, computer work, prior authorization and I could go on. The result? Not a good one. The result is burnout.”

He said, “When our main goal is to have others grow and succeed, not only do our patients and staff win, but so does the physician. Quality of life increases, burnout starts to lift and medicine becomes fun again.”

In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Talenti taught medical students at SUNY Upstate Medical Center and Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and was director of the GI Fellowship Program at Guthrie.

After earning his medical degree from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in 1988, Dr. Talenti completed an internal medicine residency at Guthrie Clinic and a fellowship in gastroenterology at the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Talenti is a longtime member of PAMED and has served in various roles, including as the chair of the board of trustees from 2014-17.
