Red Cross Announces Blood Shortage
Last Updated: Sep 29, 2021
On Monday the Red Cross announced an emergency blood shortage, down 10% since August noting that they have less than a day’s supply of certain blood types.
Patients may wonder how quickly they may donate following vaccination. According to Red Cross’s site, “In most cases, there is no deferral time for individuals who received a COVID-19 vaccine.” If you’ve received a COVID-19 vaccine you’ll need to provide the manufacturer name when you go to donate. Although not required, you’re encouraged to take your vaccination card with you. For more information on when and how people may donate blood following vaccination, go to Red Cross’s website.
