Gov. Wolf Announces Secretary of Health Nomination and Interim Acting Physician General

Last Updated: Jan 22, 2021

The following is a statement from PAMED President Michael DellaVecchia, MDPhD, FACS, FICS, FCPP

Jan. 22, 2021 – Governor Wolf announced that, effective Jan. 23, 2021, Alison Beam will serve as Pennsylvania’s new Secretary of Health and Wendy Braund, MD, MPH, MSEd, FACPM, a Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) member, will serve as Interim Acting Physician General. They will replace Rachel Levine, MD, who held both state positions and was recently chosen by President Biden for national Assistant Secretary of Health.

Dr. Levine has been an asset to both the state and PAMED, making herself readily available for physician and patient matters.

PAMED looks forward to a continued collaboration with the newly appointed Ms. Beam and Dr. Braund and with the Pa. Department of Health to advocate for the many issues affecting physicians and their patients, including the availability of COVID vaccine, especially for our frontline health care workers.
