Kristen M. Sandel, MD, a board-certified emergency physician from Berks County, was elected by a statewide group of physicians to serve as vice president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED).

Dr. Sandel has been active with PAMED since 2006; serving on the Board of Trustees, as Chair of the Employed Physician Task Force, and multiple other committees. She also serves as the Chair of the Executive Committee of the Berks County Medical Society and is active in PAMED’s Women’s Physician Section.

“I am honored to have been elected as the next vice president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society by my peers. I have been fortunate to have wonderful mentors who have moved the society forward and am looking forward to leading and serving the physicians and patients in Pennsylvania” Dr. Sandel said.

A graduate from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Dr. Sandel completed medical school training at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the MCP Hahnemann School of Medicine at Drexel University, which is now the Drexel University College of Medicine.

Dr. Sandel has been employed by Tower Health for the past 16 years, initially at Reading Hospital and now at Phoenixville Hospital. At Reading Hospital, she was instrumental in starting the Emergency Medicine Residency Program in 2018 and was the Associate Director of the Emergency Department from 2010-2019. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Reading Health System and the Reading Health Physician Group.

The election for Dr. Sandel’s position took place during PAMED’s annual meeting, which was held virtually this year due to COVID-19 precautions.
