The COVID-19 vaccine can help us find a light at the end of this pandemic. The more people who get vaccinated, the better off our communities are, and the closer we are to returning to some sense of normalcy.

Vaccine hesitancy is a real thing, though, and while there are people who will never get the vaccine, there are people who are simply hesitant and looking for information to make the best educated decision for themselves and their family.

The Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) is working to address COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, especially in diverse communities. We’ve partnered with some of our physician members who are multi-lingual to create videos in a variety of languages that provide the facts and dispel common myths.

These videos can be accessed at www.pamedsoc.org/covidvaccine. Along with English, we currently have videos in the following languages: Arabic, French, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and Urdu. In the coming weeks, we’ll add videos in Chinese, Hindi, and Vietnamese.

If you’re a community organization (e.g. community center, clinic, church, etc.) who would like the video on a thumb drive to share, please contact Cindy Warren at cwarren@pamedsoc.org and include the name of your organization, which of the available languages you’d like the video in, and where the thumb drive should be mailed to.

Health care disparities can greatly impact vaccine hesitancy. One size does not fit all. Strategies and messaging need to be tailored to address varying individual and community-wide concerns. PAMED’s multi-lingual videos are one approach we’re taking to address vaccine hesitancy across all communities in Pennsylvania.
