Speakers' Podium - 2022 Hybrid House of Delegates Planning Underway

May 25, 2022
by John J. Pagan, MD, Speaker and Todd M. Hertzberg, MD, Vice Speaker

As we enjoy Spring across Pennsylvania, preparations for the 2022 House of Delegates are well underway. The 2021 House of Delegates (HOD) meeting saw successful and efficient policymaking for the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED). Since then, your Speakers have been reviewing feedback, technology best practices, and planning the Hybrid HOD in Hershey this October 21-22, 2022. We heard you and understand how important community is at the House of Delegates and offer both on-site and remote participation options for this hybrid meeting. Because of that we are excited to present opportunities for networking, in-person learning, and getting re-acquainted:

  • Friday Afternoon CME Keynote (4:00pm): PAMED is thrilled to host Adventurer and High-Altitude Medic, Jeff Evans, to present on Servant Leadership.

  • Friday Evening PAMED Social (8:00pm): Say hello to new and old friends. Remote participants will also have opportunities to connect on-line.

  • Saturday Morning Community Breakfast: Since caucusing for Reference Committee testimony and reports will take place ahead of the HOD, a community breakfast is provided for Delegates to catch up and meet new Delegates prior to the business beginning.

  • Saturday Morning and Early Afternoon Business of the House:  Ceremonial and Keynote Speakers, Policy Determination, and Elections with full and equal participation from on-site and remote Delegates.

  • Saturday Mid Afternoon adjournment of the House: Anticipated around 3:00 PM but contingent upon the completion of business before the House.

Your Speakers are diligently working on this 2022 hybrid HOD meeting with a close eye on public health and safety. We are focused on providing a hybrid HOD that provides a robust and meaningful experience regardless of whether you participate remotely or join us in Hershey.

While we refine details for a fantastic meeting, please recall that preparation will again be the key to success:

  • The resolution submission portal is already live on the House of Delegates website – www.pamedsoc.org/HOD. Thoughtful resolutions to improve the practice of medicine in Pennsylvania are welcome now and need not wait for the July 28 deadline. Early submission allows you, your colleagues, and helpful staff to fully develop and best present your issue(s).

  • Your Reference Committee spent dedicated time ahead of the 2021 HOD to prepare an Interim Report, review and listen to testimony, and prepare a final report. We will again leverage virtual time ahead of the 2022 HOD so that we can all thoughtfully prepare for the HOD.

  • Please visit the homepage of www.pamedsoc.org/HOD often for updates and a downloadable calendar of all pertinent dates. You can also sign up there for HOD Alerts that will notify you when important meeting information is added.

Your Speakers welcome your continued input for another successful meeting to guide PAMED policy. We will provide more updates in upcoming weeks as dates, times, and details are further finalized.
