At the conclusion of the conference, the attendees should be better able to:
  • Understand the newest research findings for shorter courses of treatment for TB infection.
  • Describe the current status of US Federally Qualified Health Centers and reasons to collaborate on TB and other public health issues.
  • Explain the current status of TB infection in the US and the need to address this group of individuals to achieve TB elimination in the US.
  • Understand the role of an interpreter in quality cross-cultural communications.
  • Recognize the difference between translating and interpreting.
  • Avoid the pitfalls of giving medical care to patients with cultural expectations different from your own.
Target Audience- Health care providers involved in diagnosis or management of patients with tuberculosis, including physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, infection control practitioners, and public health staff.

Breathe Pennsylvania and the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing together with the Global Tuberculosis Institute at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey are collaborating to plan this learning activity.
