STATEMENT: Pennsylvania’s State Health Exchange

Last Updated: Jul 2, 2019

The following is a statement from the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) about a new law that allows the commonwealth to establish and operate a state-based health insurance exchange. Gov. Wolf signed House Bill 3 into law on July 2, 2019:
PAMED believes that health care coverage should be available and affordable to all Pennsylvanians. As a result, we supported House Bill 3 and its stated goal of lowering the cost of insurance premiums.
PAMED congratulates Rep. Bryan Cutler and Rep. Frank Dermody for sponsoring this proposal that passed through both the House and Senate with near unanimous support.
We look forward to working with Insurance Commissioner Jessica Altman and the General Assembly to ensure that the exchange will reduce costs and create another pathway to quality, affordable care.
