Philadelphia Physician Wins February Everyday Hero Award

Last Updated: Mar 19, 2021

Rene Rothstein Rubin, MD, FACP, a hematologist and medical oncologist at Rittenhouse Hematology in Philadelphia, has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED) as an Everyday Hero. She was presented with the award on March 19, 2021.

PAMED’s Everyday Hero Award is designed to showcase talented physicians who probably don’t view themselves as heroes, but to patients and colleagues they are.

Her nominator, who describes her as dedicated, says “She is the most caring and hardworking physician I have ever known. She consistently goes above and beyond to meet the needs of her patients. Dr. Rubin is very kind and willing to really listen to what her patients are saying.”

She goes on to say that "We are all her family; she treats us like extended daughters."

Speaking of her family, her daughter said, "It's like my mom has this magic dust that she just sprinkles wherever she goes, and that’s it...that is her magic!”

Dr. Rubin is the medical director of Multidisciplinary Cancer Programs at Hahnemann University Hospital and serves as a clinical associate professor of Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine.

With more than twenty years of experience as a hematology oncology physician, Dr. Rubin specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, prevention, genetic testing, and research of breast cancer and gastrointestinal malignancies, along with all forms of cancers and blood diseases. She is also principal investigator in numerous clinical trials.

In her time off, Dr. Rubin enjoys running and community service.

"To do what no one else will do, in a way that no one else can do, in spite of all that she has been through, that is to be Dr. Rene Rubin,” said Sarah Lees, RN, BSN.

Another RN in Dr. Rubin’s office said, "I just want to be her, or as like her as I can be. She is amazing."

Patients and medical colleagues can nominate PAMED member physicians for this award at www.pamedsoc.org/EverydayHero.
