HARRISBURG, Pa. – William Hennrikus, MD, an orthopedist from Hershey, has been named June’s Everyday Hero by the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED).
Dr. Hennrikus serves others through health improvement initiatives not only in the United States but also globally. His efforts through pediatric and orthopedic societies brought a club foot initiative to Ghana, and educational exchanges and medical care to Panama.
Nominated by Eileen Hennrikus MD, he was described in nomination paperwork as tireless. “He epitomizes the medical competencies of patient care, education, research, and service,” she says.
Theodore Christopher, MD, president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society who practices emergency medicine in Philadelphia, says that Dr. Hennrikus is a shining example of a caring physician, which is the heart of the art of medicine.
“His dedication to help initiatives focused on health improvements speaks loudly,” he says. “PAMED thanks him for his efforts and is honored to present this award to him.”
PAMED’s Everyday Hero Award is designed to showcase talented physicians who probably don’t view themselves as heroes, but to patients and colleagues they are. The award is a monthly member honor with nominations coming from patients, caregivers, and medical professionals.
Dr. Hennrikus practices at Penn State Children’s Hospital, and sees patients in Camp Hill, Hershey, Reading and State College.
He is the first recipient from the Harrisburg-Hershey area to win the award. He was selected from a statewide pool of nominations.
Dr. Hennrikus will formally be presented the award by PAMED on June 19 at 2 p.m. A brief ceremony will be held at his office located at 30 Hope Drive (Entrance B), room 2005, Hershey, Pa.
