(HARRISBURG, Pa. – 7/17/18) Richard Gaibler, DO, a family medicine physician from Chalfont, Pa., in Bucks County, has been named July’s Everyday Hero by the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED).
Dr. Gaibler, who practices at the Doylestown Health Physicians Network, is the first recipient from Bucks County to win the award. He was selected from a statewide pool of nominations.
PAMED’s Everyday Hero Award is designed to showcase talented physicians who probably don’t view themselves as heroes, but to patients and colleagues they are. The award is a monthly member honor.
Practice administrator Donna Kittredge says Dr. Gaibler’s unique ability to listen sets him apart. Dr. Gaibler says the simple idea of letting patients know you care can help build trust.
He was taught simple strategies like sitting at patients’ bedsides in a chair to help put them at ease. These lessons continue to resonate with him to this day.
“I don’t carry a computer into the exam room,” Dr. Gaibler says. He prefers to keep his focus on his patients.
Theodore Christopher, MD, president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society who practices emergency medicine in Philadelphia, says listening is the hallmark of being a great physician.
“Medicine is as much an art as it is a science,” he says. “It’s so important that we take the time to listen and understand a patient’s specific need. We applaud Dr. Gaibler for making that his primary focus. We are honored to present him with this award.”
Dr. Gaibler will formally be presented the award by PAMED at 9 a.m. July 17. A brief ceremony will be held at his office located at 1500 Horizon Drive, Suite 115, Chalfont, Pa., 18914.
