Louis Heyl, MD, a board-certified family physician at Heyl Family Practice has been recognized by the Pennsylvania Medical Society as an Everyday Hero Award winner. His practice is a third-generation primary care office in Pittsburgh, and he has over
40 years of experience supporting individuals in the community, continuing the legacy of his father to prioritize patient care.
Nominated by his colleague, Dr. Heyl is described as “the definition of a provider that goes above and beyond to truly get to know his patients, his staff, and his colleagues. He is always looking for ways to work with his staff to improve the patient
and employee experience.”
“Dr. Heyl does more than just provide the bare minimum to his patients in the exam room - he ensures they leave with a clear understanding of the plan and have no additional questions.”
He received his medical degree from Hahnemann Medical University and completed his residency at Western Pennsylvania Hospital. He has held a variety of leadership positions over the course of his career including the past Chairman of Family Medicine at
UPMC Passavant and past President of Genesis Medical Associates.
Dr. Heyl says his favorite part of his job is his relationship with his patients.
“Someone comes in with a problem and I do what I can to help support them through figuring it out. Whether I have the answer or I connect them with a specialist who does, I enjoy helping patients problem solve. It's personal to me and I want patients
to know I am invested in their success."
PAMED’s Everyday Hero Award, launched in 2018, is designed to showcase talented physicians who go above and beyond in their profession and in providing patient care.
