  • Should physicians be able to prescribe medical marijuana as a treatment?
See rules for 2018 event
  • Students must be PAMED members to participate
  • Debate topics will be confirmed approximately two months prior to the debates
  • Each of the three topics will be covered in 30-minute intervals
  • Two teams comprised of medical students are created based on registrations, maximum of 18 participants per team
  • Each team identifies a captain that helps organize his/her team and determines which of the three topics are assigned to each team member
  • Teams must know the pros and cons of all three topics as actual team position on the topic is not determined until the day of the debates
  • Three students from each team will participate on stage for each debate topic
  • Supporting evidence should relate to community challenges, laws, regulations or other health care concerns/data in Pennsylvania
  • All Pennsylvania medical schools will be given the opportunity to be represented; schools with multiple participants will be evenly split between the two teams on a first come, first served basis
  • Audience members will have the opportunity to question statements of the debate teams during the Q&A period
  • Audience members will determine the winners of each debate topic
