(Harrisburg, PA) For Stephen Schleicher, MD, teledermatology is a way to reach those who might not have access to a dermatologist. For patients in underserved areas with a shortage of dermatologists, Dr. Schleicher’s innovation provides access to care to help fight skin cancer and other skin diseases.

The concept, entered in a random drawing of the PAMED Better Health Network™ Health Innovators Contest, earned Dr. Schleicher, a dermatologist with offices in Hazleton, Pottsville, and Reading, an Apple iPad2.

The contest, which ran from this past Spring through mid-July, gave health care professionals a chance to share their problem-solving ideas for a chance to win an iPad2. More than 50 Pennsylvania physicians, practice managers, and medical students from across the state entered the online contest, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the PAMED Better Health Network™.

Dr. Schleicher’s innovation, which takes advantage of modern technology to utilize electronically transferred digital images, will be featured on the Pennsylvania Medical Society’s website. In addition, other health care innovations that were entered in the contest are being shared on the website.

The Pennsylvania Medical Society was founded in 1848, and today, the physician members continue to focus on better health for all Pennsylvanians. To learn more about the Pennsylvania Medical Society, visit its website at www.pamedsoc.org or its patient website at www.myfamilywellness.org.
