(Harrisburg, PA) Bruce A. MacLeod, MD, FACEP, an emergency medicine specialist in Pittsburgh, was elected by his peers to serve as vice president of the Pennsylvania Medical Society (PAMED).
Dr. MacLeod will serve one year as vice president. Afterwards, he becomes president-elect for one year. In October 2013, he’ll take over as president of the statewide organization. He was elected to the position of vice president during the organization’s annual statewide meeting held in Hershey, PA, on October 15.
A 12-year member of PAMED, he has served on its board of trustees since 2003 as a hospital-based specialty trustees. From 2003 to 2009 he served as the chair of the organization’s board of trustees.
Since becoming a physician, Dr. MacLeod has been active in several medical organizations. In addition to being a member of PAMED, he holds memberships in the American Medical Association, Allegheny County Medical Society, Society of Academic Emergency Medicine, National Association of EMS Physicians, and the American College of Emergency Physicians.
He is a former president of the Pennsylvania Chapter, American College of Emergency Physicians. He also served as the Speaker for the American College of Emergency Physician’s Council.
Outside of organized medicine, Dr. MacLeod has served on the board of the Women’s Center and Shelter of Greater Pittsburgh as well as his local school board.
Dr. MacLeod, a graduate of the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, is currently a clinical associate professor with the University of Pittsburgh Department of Emergency Medicine. He served as chairman of the department of emergency medicine at UPMC Mercy Hospital from 1993 to 2010 and is now a full time clinician.
Currently, he and wife Jan have four children and reside in Pittsburgh.
The patient-doctor relationship has been the priority of the Pennsylvania Medical Society since its founding in 1848.
