Pennsylvania Medical Society Kicks Off Annual Statewide Outreach Program

HARRISBURG, PA – More than 300 patients called with health concerns ranging from cancer, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, and MRSA Wednesday night as the Pennsylvania Medical Society launched its annual statewide outreach program “Doctors on Call.”

Twenty-six physician volunteers fielded a constant stream of questions from patients ranging in age from 15-84 during WGAL’s broadcast from 5-6:30 p.m. This was the sixth year that hundreds of callers phoned in from throughout Central Pennsylvania to speak with a physician anonymously and free of charge.

Volunteers were equipped with a resource guide in order to refer patients to nearby community health centers that provide free or reduced-cost care. The Pennsylvania Medical Society also offers a wealth of information on its patient website, www.myfamilywellness.org including a database of physicians from across the state, to help Pennsylvania patients find a medical care provider for their needs. Additonally, WGAL has posted the contents of the “Doctors on Call” resource guide on their website, www.wgal.com.
