Young Physicians Section Governing Council Responsibilities
The Young Physicians Section Governing Council consists of eight voting members, including a chair, vice chair, secretary, delegate, alternate delegate, two members-at-large, and Board of Trustee representative. In addition, an annual election occurs to select four delegates and four alternate delegates to the AMA. All travel and lodging expenses incurred by Governing Council members in connection with official PMS-YPS business will be reimbursed by Pennsylvania Medical Society. Time commitment 5-10 days per year depending on the office held..
- Chair
The chair shall preside at the meetings of the Section and at meetings of the Governing Council and appoint committees as the need arises. In addition, the chair may be called upon to visit various areas of the state in the interest of the Young Physicians Section and perform other duties as assigned.
- Vice Chair
The vice-chair shall assist the chair in the performance of his/her duties; preside at meetings in the absence of the chair, when requested by the chair; visit various areas of the state in the interest of the Young Physicians Section; and serve as parliamentarian of the Section. In the event of the death or resignation of the chair, the vice-chair shall assume the office of the chair and perform other duties as assigned.
- Secretary
The secretary shall be responsible for the preparation of news items and information for distribution to the general membership of the Section. In addition, the secretary shall have oversight responsibilities for the development and maintenance of such records and items as may be necessary for the conduct of the activities of the Section and perform other duties as assigned.
- Delegates and Alternate Delegates
The delegates and alternate delegates shall be AMA members and represent the members of the Section in the Pennsylvania Medical Society House of Delegates and in the AMA-YPS meetings. Also, when requested by the chair, the delegates and alternates may visit various areas of the state in the interest of the Young Physicians Section and perform other duties as assigned. Time commitment: 13 days per year; includes 4 days for AMA-YPS Annual Meeting in June; 4 days for AMA-YPS Interim Meeting in December; 3 days for PMS-YPS annual meeting and Pennsylvania Medical Society House of Delegates meeting; and, 2 days for Governing Council meetings as scheduled.
- Members-at-Large
The members-at-large shall assist the chair by performing special assignments and, when requested by the chair, may visit various areas of the state in the interest of the Young Physicians Section and perform other duties as assigned. Time commitment: Approximately 7 days per year.
- Board of Trustees Representative
The Board of Trustees representative shall be responsible for attending Pennsylvania Medical Society Board of Trustees meetings and provide YPS representation at those meetings. In turn, the Board of Trustees representative shall keep the YPS up-to-date on issues being addressed at the Board level. Time commitment: Approximately 17-20 days per year.
