IMG Governing Council Responsibilities

The IMG Governing Council directs the programs and activities of the Section. The Governing Council conducts the business of the Section consistent with the policies adopted by the Section membership.

There are six voting members on the IMG Governing Council: the chair, vice chair, Board of Trustees representative, delegate and alternate delegate to the Society’s House of Delegates, and a resident delegate. Other voting members of the Section leadership include at-large delegates, appointed by the chair according to the geographic regions that they represent, as well as the Medical Society’s IMG representative to the AMA.

  • Chair—The chair shall preside at the meetings of the Section and at meetings of the Governing Council, appoint committees, report to the Pennsylvania Medical Society Board of Trustees as necessary. In addition, the chair may be called upon to visit various areas of the state in the interest of the International Medical Graduates Section.
  • Vice chair—The vice chair shall assist the chair in the performance of his/her duties, preside at meetings in the absence of the chair when requested by the chair, visit various areas of the state in the interest of the International Medical Graduates Staff Section, and serve as parliamentarian of the Section. In the event of the death or resignation of the chair, the vice chair shall assume the office of the chair.
  • Delegate and alternate delegate—The delegate and alternate delegate shall represent the members of the Section in the Society House of Delegates and, when requested by the chair, visit various areas of the state in the interest of the International Medical Graduates Section.
  • Board of Trustees representative—The Board of Trustees representative shall represent the Section at all the Board of Trustee meetings. When requested by the chair, the Board of Trustees representative may visit various areas of the state on behalf of the Section.
  • Resident delegate—The resident delegate shall attend the meetings of Governing Council of the IMG Section. In addition, the resident delegate may be called upon to visit various areas of the state in the interest of the International Medical Graduates Section.
  • At-large delegates—The at-large delegates shall be appointed by the chair of the IMG Section from the Pennsylvania Medical Society geographic district in which they live or reside. The delegates will attend the IMG Sectin meetings in their respective districts as the Section’s representative. The at-large delegates will also be invited to attend the IMG Section Governing Council meetings.
