Ambulatory Surgical Facilities Required to Develop Infection Control Plans

Infection control plans were required to be in place in ambulatory surgical facilities (ASFs) by the end of 2007. The plans are required under Act 52 of 2007, which is aimed at reducing health care associated infections.

ASFs must develop measures to detect, control, and prevent health care associated infections, including “super bugs.” They must develop a system for identifying patients with MRSA or another multi-drug resistant organism (MDRO) and procedures for screening and caring for staff members who may have been exposed to these infections.

The plan must be submitted to the Department of Health for review and approval within 14 days of implementation by the facility.

See below for guidelines on developing an infection control plan.
