Medical Society Sends Letter in Support of Medicare Payment Reform

Medicare payment reform is an essential component of health system reform that will ensure patient access to high quality health care, Pennsylvania Medical Society President James A. Goodyear, MD, wrote in a letter to Pennsylvania Senators Arlen Specter and Robert Casey Jr.

Dr. Goodyear urged the senators to vote for HR 3961, the Medicare Physician Payment Reform Act.

“For too many years physicians have faced an annual crisis of deep Medicare fee cuts because action had not been taken to repeal the sustainable growth rate (SGR) Medicare physician payment formula. Legislation consistent with that found in HR 3961 will replace that unworkable Medicare physician payment system,” he wrote.
