House Committee Passes Two Health Insurance Bills

Employees of small businesses could continue health insurance after leaving a job under a bill being considered by the state House of Representatives. Currently, only employees of companies of 20 or more employees can continue insurance through COBRA.

Senate Bill 1422 was one of two health insurance bills approved by the House Insurance Committee on Oct. 6, 2008.

The second, Senate Bill 1453, would allow parents to keep children up to and including age 29 on their health insurance plans.

Both bills passed the Senate unanimously on Sept. 24. They are part of the Senate Republicans’ HealthNET PA plan, a package of 15 bills aimed at improving health care access and affordability.
