Challenge 3: Thank Your Legislators

Thank your Representatives who voted “NO” on the question of whether it was constitutional to use Mcare money to help balance the state budget. This was the House vote on House Bill 1407, amendment A4410, Schroder constitutional challenge, Oct. 8, 2009.

In the Senate, there was no similar vote on the specifics of Mcare money.  So please thank your Senators who voted “NO” on the final budget, which included the Mcare raid. This was the Senate vote on House Bill 1614 for final passage, Oct. 9, 2009.

Use the links above to find how your legislators voted. You can find your legislators’ phone, address, and email and also send an email to them by going to Capwiz.

Balancing the Budget with MCARE $ should not have been permissable. As a professional I already pay the highest overhead and have the highest risk of medical liability practicing in SE Pa. I would like to thank all House and senate members who voted NO but especially Representative Harper and Senator Greenleaf. I am apalled at the fact that Josh Shapiro who has significant insight into this issue was against it. I can tell you the people he represents were not happy. Stealing from Peter to pay Paul should not occur. Did we see Torte Reform highlighted in the new healthcare reform? NO. I refuse to pay any further money into this process.

Thanks to all the legislators, including our own Duane Milne who tried to prevent the theft of our MCare funds. My patients and I pay attention to what goes on in the legislature; shame on those who committed the unethical act of allowing diversion of funds needed to compensate injured citizens for medical mistakes.

In addition to thanking legislators, I plan to drop a written note to my Senator, Sen Earll to express my disappointment at her Y vote. It helps to inform legislators that we are watching...

Thank you for your vote to try to prevent the use of MCARE funds to balance the budget. Those funds are designated to compensate patients harmed through no fault of their own. Using those funds to balance the budget is unfair to those patients and further erodes the publics confidence in the political process. I hope that in the next round of budget talks that there is a way to restore this money.

I want you to know that I recognize and appreciate your support of physicians in PA in regards to your opposition to the state raid of our MCARE Fund, our hard earned money set aside for injured patients. These same officials who voted to steal our money to balance the budget are the same ones who oppose significant tort reform by and large. As a primary care physician, who now is using electronic media to communicate with my patients, I plan to use my relationships with my patient community to select our next leaders in government. I applaud your interest in transforming PA into a physician friendly place. Keep up the good work on our communities behalf. Rene R. Rigal, M.D.
