CME Tracker Helps Out Cardiac Consultants

Tracking continuing medical education (CME) credits for multiple physicians can create quite a mountain of paper. Mary Rafferty knows this firsthand.

As a physician secretary for Cardiac Consultants, PC, in Lancaster, Rafferty tracks data for seven physicians. But since the Pennsylvania Medical Society launched its CME Tracker in 2004, Rafferty’s filing cabinets have become much less cluttered.

Rather than fill out paper applications, attach CME certificates and mail the bundle to the State Society, Rafferty can just fill out an online form.

At the end of the year, it’s easy for Rafferty to request a certificate showing that the practice’s physicians have completed their State Society CME requirements.

“I just hit the button on Tracker to request a certificate, and I have it,” Rafferty says.

Physicians can use the certificate for credentialing purposes with hospitals and insurers, showing that they have met the State Society’s CME requirements, which are more stringent than the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine’s requirements.

She says she finds Tracker easy to use. Just check a few boxes, enter data into a few fields, and she’s done.

“It’s wonderful. It just saves me a lot of time,” Rafferty says.
